Many corporations and government agencies prioritize the use of diverse-owned businesses in their supply chains. Several organizations provide Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification, ensuring that a business is at least 51% minority-owned, controlled, and operated. There are also certifications for Women Business Enterprises (WBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE), LGBT Business Enterprises (LGBTBE), Veteran Business Enterprises (VBE), Service Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (SDVBE), and Business Enterprises owned by People with Disabilities (BEPD). Cost and eligibility vary by agency. Companies should determine which certifications to pursue based on their eligibility and which accreditation is recognized by their target market.
